Yamada starts off her piece discussing the time her students felt offended when blamed for the oppression of minorities and were unaware of the oppression of Asian Americans. Personally, this absolutely shocked me when reading it because I never thought someone would have the guts to say such a horrid thing in front of an entire class. This scenario, specifically, is something that can and has been seen today. Yamada continues discussing her grievance that she filed against the college administration she was working for because they violated her rights as a teacher at the institution. Institutions say they are diverse and speak about the importance of it yet, it is not seen throughout its faculty and staff.

Here, Yamada strives for equality when processing this grievance however, she is only met with hatred from her colleagues. They made assumptions about her and that feminists forced her to file this grievance. Her tone in this text really shows the strength and fearlessness in herself and Asian Americans Blwss who are done being invisible.
Yamada bring up the history of Asian Americans and what her people suffered through during World War II and the racism towards Asian Americans during the early years of the war. I feel Yamada brings up Death In Bless Me Ultima history in hopes to educate those who were unaware of the Asians Ultiam America and what exactly they were put through in internment camps and redlined.
This is something that reminded me of the narrative titled, The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, who shares a similar story to Link as an Asian American living in a primarily white society. Her voice throughout this whole piece truly signifies the fight for a better future however, after forty years of this work being released, not much has changed.
